When I arrived home, my wife wanted to see everything that I had purchased. When I showed her the book, she said, "You know that this a novel. You don't read novels." "Yeah but look at the subject and the location!", I replied. "This book is perfect for me!"
I started reading the book and was totally caught up in the action. However, I couldn't help feeling that I was in the middle of an awesome series. I decided to google Steve Berry and Cotton Malone. Sure enough, there were four previous books in the series. I decided to stop reading The Paris Vendetta, purchase the other books and start at the beginning with The Templar Legacy. While waiting for the books, I looked on Steve's website to see if he did signings and if he might be coming to our area. Sure enough, I noticed that he would be doing a presentation in May at the local JCC (Jewish Community Center). I told my wife about it and we marked the date on our calendar.
When the day arrived, Kathleen and I got there early. I was so excited to meet Steve and hear him discuss his books. The event was everything that I had hoped it would be. Steve was an incredibly engaging speaker. He held everyone's attention for well over an hour and a half. When Steve asked for questions, he was bombarded with several and he took the time to explain and respond to each and every one.
After his presentation, I followed Steve to his table to purchase a copy of The Columbus Affair and obtain his autograph. During the signing, I noticed that my wife, Kathleen was talking to Steve's wife, Elizabeth. They were smiling and chatting and having a great time. Elizabeth was telling stories about her adventures with Steve. I joined my wife and we continued talking to Elizabeth even after everyone else had left. It was fun to hear some of the things that Steve has done to research his books. Steve came over and we talked to both of them for another half hour or so. I can honestly say that Kathleen and I have never had so much fun! Steve and Elizabeth are so kind, accepting, real, and friendly. They really love people and genuinely care about their fans.
As we left the JCC, Kathleen turned to me and said, "Do you think that the Berrys would be interested in leading a cruise/tour? We could visit places that appear in Steve's books!" I thought it was a GREAT idea and I encouraged her to email Steve.
When Steve received the email, he put us in contact with Esther Garver, who is the executive director of Steve Berry Enterprises. Esther sent us an email requesting more info. Kathleen explained our idea: a cruise through eastern Europe, designed especially for The Columbus Affair and The Amber Room. Later we heard back from Esther that Steve was onboard (no pun intended). The rest, as we say, is history.
If you have already decided to join us for the tour, we want you to know that both Steve and Elizabeth are VERY excited to meet you! Steve has shared many more wonderful stories with us that he will be sharing with you during the cruise! It is definitely going to be the experience of a lifetime! If you haven't signed up yet, there is still time.
We look forward to meeting you and sharing this exciting week in September as Steve Berry Fans together!
'Til next week!
