To begin with, the entire crew came out to greet Kathleen and her mother when they arrived. This really impressed "Mum" who is most concerned with manners; a result of her British upbringing. She found everyone on the ship to be exceedingly kind, polite, and ready to take care of her every need. I'll give you an example.
Mum has to have a cup of coffee each morning or she can't get going. Kathleen went down to get one for her before breakfast was served. One of the crew noticed her and asked why she was there so early. Kathleen explained the situation. The crew member told Kathleen not to worry about the coffee. She would bring it to Mum every morning, extra early, before her normal working hours...and she did! It is a willingness to go the extra mile, that makes Ama the best cruise line for a wonderful trip through Europe.
Each evening, the chef came out of the kitchen to greet guests in the dining room. One evening there was a guest with dietary restrictions who had not made her needs known to Ama before the trip. She discussed her situation with the chef who created, not only a special meal for her that evening, but an entire menu of foods made especially for her, that he provided for the remainder of the cruise. In addition, the dining staff supplied multiples of each course to guests at their request. That included dessert. Mum, who claims that she never eats sweets, took full advantage of the offer.
And speaking of spry, Mum got very involved with many of the other fun passengers on the ship. She joked, laughed and even danced with one of them, something that she has not done for nearly 20 years! It was very touching for Kathleen to see her mother so happy.
Next week we will continue discussing the history and tales of the cities that we will be visiting with Steve Berry in September.
