STEVE BERRY & FANS RIVER CRUISE 2013

RICH JEWISH HERITAGE - BEAUTIFUL EUROPEAN SCENERY - EDUCATIONAL AND ENTERTAINING

Historic European cities provide the perfect background for exploring and understanding the Jewish culture in a profound and often, very personal manner.  Among the majestic castles and cathedrals lie preciously preserved Jewish museums, memorials, cemeteries, synagogues, art and artifacts.

TWELVE DAYS - FOUR COUNTRIES - ONE LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE

Picture
PRAGUE:  Nestled in the heart of what is now known as the Czech Republic, the city of Prague is often referred to as the Historical Pearl  of Europe and is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Within its walls rest three of the oldest synagogues in all of Europe and Josefov (The Old Jewish Quarter), the best preserved Jewish quarter in Europe.  Special to this tour is a very meaningful visit to The Old Jewish Cemetery.   But don't end your visit there.  As the political, economic and cultural centre of the Czech Republic, Prague boasts textbook architectural styles and is a city filled with music, romance and nostalgia.

NUREMBERG:  This beautiful German city boasts a unique mixture of tradition and modern times. Although Nuremberg is a modern city with 500,000 inhabitants, its almost thousand years of history are still obvious in its cityscape.

Imagine yourself visiting The Germanische National Museum.  Founded in 1852 with the intent to collect and display exhibits relating to German culture and history, today the museum's collection comprises over 1.2 million objects, making it Germany's largest museum of cultural history, as well as the National Museum of the Federal Republic.

VIENNA:  Welcome to the breathtaking capital of Austria, a dream city for anyone with a romantic streak or an unquenchable interest in history.  Here sightseeing opportunities are to be found in abundance as you wander along narrow, medieval alleyways and across imperial squares.Unique to your stop in Vienna will be the tour of . . .

BUDAPEST:  The Páva Synagogue and the adjoining new wing designed by the Ybl-prize winner István Mányi houses the Holocaust Memorial Center since 2004.  The institution was awarded Nivó Prize of Architecture for restoration and rehabilitation of a historic monument in 2005.  The building complex is a mix of classical and modern architecture and it's asymmetrical outline, the dislocated walls, and the descending stairs in the exhibition halls, all symbolize the distorted and twisted time of the Holocaust. From the inner courtyard, a flight of descending stairs underneath a leaning glass structure leads to the exhibition halls.  The lecture hall, the rooms for group activities, the archive, and the library are on the ground floor, while the first floor houses the offices.  The building is fully accessible to disabled visitors.

Anne Frank, unknowingly at the time, best described Kathleen Rubinstein Charon when she penned the words, “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.”

It is with this type of unassuming character that Kathleen began spending much time in researching and visiting the cities and sites of her own Jewish ancestry.  Filled with a love of the land, a passion for the people and a deep respect and reverence for the unique and sacred experiences that have been recorded throughout history, Kathleen has personally experienced the thrill of visiting Europe on several occasions and has a vast understanding of the places that best memorialize the Jewish culture on that continent.

Desiring now to share and preserve that which she has learned, Kathleen informs, educates and explores the incredible Jewish heritage of Europe with people of many faiths and nationalities, through various lectures, discussions and also her amazing European River Boat Cruises.
